Jo-Anne Hayward, R.H.N., Wellness Practitioner, Nutritional Naturopath here and I’ve had a lot of questions about how I prepare my morning matcha latte, so here we go !
Invest in a Matcha Tea Set
First, I recommend investing in a matcha tea set with a bamboo whisk (Chasen in Japanese) and a bamboo measuring spoon (or Chashaku in Japanese) so you can prepare it in the traditional Japanese way. The kit usually comes with a nice tea bowl (Chawan in Japanese) for whisking. It’s not necessary, you can prepare a good cup of matcha without the tea set, but it just feels more like a delightful “tea ritual” with it.

Matcha Latte Preparation
The preparation is quite simple. Whisk a matcha spoonful (about 1 tsp) in about 1/4 cup of 80 degree water (not boiling or you will burn the matcha). Whisk until frothy. Add about 1/2 cup of warm milk 🥛 of your choice, I use Milkadamia because I like it. Add a small squirt of Stevia sweetener (optional). Whisk again and enjoy!!
Did you know Matcha Japanese Style?
Matcha is a type of powdered green tea 🍵 . Matcha is prepared differently than regular green tea adding to its health benefits. Because the whole leaf 🍃 powder is ingested, matcha contains more antioxidants and more caffeine than regular green tea but without the jittery effects of coffee. Since the leaves are ground up into powder, you end up consuming the whole leaf. For this reason, matcha may have even more benefits than regular green tea. Because matcha is concentrated, it is recommended to consume no more than two cups per day. Green tea is one of the most popular drinks in the world, and with good reason.
Health Benefits
Matcha contains concentrated antioxidants equivalent to 3 cups of regular green tea 🍵 . Some of the health benefits associated with matcha are reducing risk of heart disease, may aid in weight loss, may boost relaxation and alertness. Use organic matcha to ensure a good quality tea. Ceremonial grade matcha is more expensive but worth the splurge from time to time.
In Summary
Matcha is loaded with antioxidants and offers many health benefits, possibly reducing heart ❤️ disease while aiding weight loss, relaxation and alertness. Enjoy 😊 !
